May Dates Announced for Free Rabies Clinics in Erie County

ERIE COUNTY, NY— Today, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein and Erie County Legislator Lynn Marinelli (District 3) announced that upcoming rabies clinics will be held in the month of May. The clinics, conducted by the County Department of Health in association with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society and the SPCA Serving Erie County, provide free rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats, and ferrets.

“We must protect families and their pets from rabies, and these free clinics are a great way to do that,” said Poloncarz.

“Advocacy, access, achievement: Making the connection” is the theme of National School Nurse Day, being celebrated on Wednesday, May 9. The theme is reflective of the overall positive impact school nurses have on the health and well-being of students, according to the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).

The Iroquois Central School District, covering approximately 84 square miles, includes the towns of Elma, Marilla, Wales, Aurora, Lancaster and Bennington. The district serves approximately 2,900 students in six public schools, and also includes two Catholic elementary schools — Annunciation and St. Vincent de Paul.

Cool Gel ’n Cap LLC, the Western New York-based company that produces a unique first aid hat for toddlers and young children, is supporting two childrens’ charities through sales of the Cool Gel ’n Cap product.

“Cool Gel ’n Cap is proud to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a Partner in Hope,” said Elma resident Timothy Panicali, president and co-inventor of Cool Gel ‘n Cap. “As we grow as a company, we will continue to donate 5 percent of our profit to the hospital. Annunciation to Host Unyts Blood Drive

Annunciation Parish, 7580 Clinton, St., Elma, will host a Unyts blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in Selbert Hall.

Annunciation School is home to The Center for Health Science, an innovative hands-on curriculum for students in seventh and eighth grade that allows participants to receive health certifications, prepare research projects, explore health career opportunities, and delve into subjects such as safety, fitness, ecology and drug awareness. Unyts is a partner in the program, offering both financial and professional support.
