Alden Woman Charged with Embezzling $300K

A Statement Released by the Erie County Sheriff Department

Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard is announcing the arrest of a Town of Alden woman on charges of grand larceny and fraud for allegedly embezzling approximately $300,000.00 dollars over the past six years at the company she was employed by – NORAMPAC (Lancaster Division) on Walden Avenue in Lancaster.

46 year old Lynn Montgomery of Sullivan Road, Town of Alden was arrested on December 30, 2011;  she is due back in  the Village of Alden Court this evening at 6:30 PM for a felony hearing on her case.

Detectives from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office were alerted by a local bank late last month after suspicious deposits were made by Montgomery into her account.  A subsequent three week long investigation revealed Montgomery had been generating fraudulent payroll checks from NORAMPAC since early 2005, where she worked as their Human Resources Director and Payroll Clerk.  Montgomery allegedly issued the  payroll checks to employees that were either out on disability or recently terminated; she would then forge these employees’ signatures and deposit the checks into her personal bank account.

The investigation continues by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the bank in which the deposits were made.  Additional charges may be placed pending the outcome of these investigations.

Montgomery had worked at NORAMPAC since 2001.
