Mary Queen of Angels Student Headed to State Finals of Basketball Competition

Hannah Pufpaff, a seventh grade student at Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga, has advanced to the State Finals of the Knights of Columbus Free-throw Shooting Contest to be held March 24 in Syracuse. Hannah, who also qualified for the State Finals last year, won a local competition held at Mary Queen of Angels on January 24 before winning the District Finals on February 25 at the Knights of Columbus on Kenmore Avenue in Buffalo.

Mary Queen of Angels, located at 170 Rosewood Terrace, will hold its annual open house event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 6. For more information, please visit www.mqangels.com or call the school office at 895-6280.

OK, so this hockey season may not be working out exactly how Buffalo Sabres fans envisioned it before the start of the season. But there’s a hockey team just across the border that’s closing out February as the Canadian Hockey League’s (CHL) number one ranked junior team!

The London Knights, under the direction of head coach and GM Mark Hunter, have put together an impressive 42-13-0-1 record. Hunter’s name should be familiar to local hockey fans as he had a long NHL career that included stops in Montreal, St. Louis, Calgary, Hartford and Washington.

Eight NFL Greats Scheduled to Appear at Sports Collectors Expo 23

Sports Collectors Expo 23, featuring eight former NFL greats and sponsored by Five Star Promotions and The Sports Corner, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 11, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, February 12, at Batavia Downs Casino, 8315 Park Road, Batavia.

Scheduled to appear and sign autographs for fans on Saturday are Denver Broncos Hall of Famer Floyd Little from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Buffalo Bills greats Andre Reed and Steve Tasker from noon to 1:30 p.m., and former New York Giants superstar Rodney Hampton from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
