Should Teacher Be Dismissed for Dissing Students?

Should Teacher Be Dismissed for Dissing Students?

My students are out of control. They are rude, disengaged, lazy whiners.

Should this English teacher be dismissed for dissing students on her blog? As a former high school English teacher myself, I give her an A+ for summarizing the state of American secondary education in such a direct, pithy manner.

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - An English teacher suspended over blog postings in which she referred to students as "disengaged, lazy whiners" was reinstated because she has a legal right to her job, but dozens of students have already asked to be kept out of her classes, school officials said Wednesday.

Requests from students who ask not to be placed in Natalie Munroe's English and debate classes will be honored, Central Bucks East High School Principal Abe Lucabaugh said at a news conference.

WNY Schools Ranked by Efficiency

Business First - by G. Scott Thomas

Frontier is the most efficient school district in Western New York, according to annual ratings posted by Business First.

Frontier pushed ahead of Lancaster, which was last year's regional leader in administrative efficiency. Lancaster is No. 2 this year.

Rounding out the top five are North Tonawanda, Williamsville and East Aurora.

Business First annually rates the academic performance of all Western New York school districts. This year's academic ratings will be released in early June.

But the rankings of administrative efficiency are separate, designed to identify those districts that have the tightest budgets and leanest staffs, regardless of academic performance. These ratings are especially timely now, since school budget votes are just days away.
