Dog Ears Bookstore & Café to Host Soda Bread Contest, Irish Breakfast

 

Dog Ear’s Bookstore & Café, a community bookstore located in the heart of Buffalo’s Irish Heritage District, will host a Soda Bread Contest on Saturday, March 15, at the bookstore, 688 Abbott Road.

Soda bread can be submitted in three categories: plain, fruited or brown. All entries will be judged on traditional appearance, taste and texture. There is a $5 entry fee. Entries should be dropped of at the café counter by 10 a.m. March 15, with judging at 11 a.m. First and second place prizes will be awarded.

The popular Winter Market at Horsefeathers will continue its successful run on Saturday, March 1. The indoor market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through May 3 and occupies portions of the first floor and lower level of the Horsefeathers Market & Residences, located at 346 Connecticut St. on Buffalo’s West Side. 

Providing musical entertainment on March 1 will be violinist David Adamczyk.

Private Knives Catering Named Exclusive Caterer for Bride’s Night Out

Private Knives Catering, a full-service boutique catering company located in Lancaster, has been named the exclusive catering vendor for Bride’s Night Out. The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at All Season Rental, 5885 Transit Road, East Amherst.

Soon-to-be brides and their wedding parties are invited to attend the event, which will feature a wide variety of wedding-related vendors and information. Private Knives Catering will be offering samples of some of their most tasty and trendy appetizers. Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops accepting applications for 2014 festival

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is accepting online applications year-round from Western New York restaurants, food trucks, and wineries interested in participating in Buffalo’s premier summertime food festival. The deadline to apply for the 2014 festival is January 31, 2014. The nation’s largest two-day food festival is set for July 12 and 13, 2014 along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.

To be eligible, restaurants and wineries must be public establishments whose primary commercial function is to serve food/wine on a retail basis and be open year round in Western New York. Wineries from the Finger Lakes wine region are also eligible to apply. Food truck applicants must adhere to the same menu item criteria as brick and mortar restaurants. Applications and additional criteria to be eligible for participation can be found at www.tasteofbuffalo.com under the “restaurants and wineries” tab.

The Western New York community will celebrate its 10th annual Local Restaurant Week from Oct. 21-27, and the Brick Oven Bistro & Deli in South Buffalo is busy preparing for the big event.

Celebrating independent restaurants across Western New York, the highlight of the event is the opportunity for patrons to enjoy a delicious dinner for just $20.13 per person, reflecting the year of the event. At Brick Oven Bistro & Deli, guests will enjoy soup or salad and have an opportunity to select from a variety of dinner entrees. The restaurant is featuring German cuisine on weekends throughout October.
