Bauth Brings Home the Gold
News

AMHERST, N.Y.-It was quite a first trip to Europe for 14 year old Jordan Bauth. She won an Olympic Gold MEdal in the Team Figure Skating Event at the first ever 2012 Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria.

Bauth represents the Amherst Skating Club. Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar caught up with her Monday afternoon at the Northtown Center in Amherst. She described her trip to Europe and winning the gold medal as "the most awesome thing I've experienced in my life."

Jordan described for Stu what it was like when she was announced as the Gold Medal Winner. "I didn't believe it was happening like it was so cool and I didn't think I would ever hear that or just saying United States like representing USA. I'm really proud to be from the United States and be able to represent my country doing something I love."

Coach Lenel van den Berg who traveled to Europe with Jordan told Stu that separates her from the other skaters. "Its her mental toughness. She's very tough mentally. Its paid off tremendously over the years. That's what I credit that too."

Jordan doesn't know what the future holds or even if winning the Gold Medal at the Youth Olympics is a big step toward the Olympics. She does know she gets a special feeling from skating. "Its the feeling I get when I skate that I can't stay away from it or anything. I just feel so happy and if I have like a bad day and I come to skating it like puts me in a better mood all of a sudden."

Bauth is a ninth grader at Lancaster High School. Her ultimate goal to skate for her country in the Olympics.
