2011 Appeal Reaches $9 Million
News

Just two weeks after announcing the progress of the 2011 Appeal in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, the organization today announced that an additional $729,829.25 in cash and pledges has been received, bringing the total to $9,054,181.80 or 86.2 percent of the $10.5 million goal.

With the Appeal continuing through June 30, another $1,445,818.20 is needed in donations and pledges to achieve the goal.

Catholic Charities’ leaders expressed appreciation for the response by donors since Palm Sunday, the close of Appeal Week, and stressed the importance of reaching the goal.

Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF, Catholic Charities diocesan director, said, “We are pleased to be able to reach $9 million at this time and we are thankful for each and every donation made or pledged since mid-April. However, with the later Easter season we are aware that our time is limited.”

She added, “Our concern turns to counseling clients awaiting help, individuals in need of emergency assistance and students in need of supportive services. The need among children, families, seniors and all of the people we serve across Western New York is great and we must continue to strive toward meeting our final goal for their sake.”

Greg Maher, 2011 Appeal Chair, urged volunteers and donors to keep up the strong support.

Maher said, “With only eight weeks left until June 30, we urge those in parishes and people across Western New York to respond as soon as possible. We also want to ask our volunteers to reach out once more to those who have not yet responded this year. We will need to keep up a strong pace in order to make our $10.5 million goal! The generosity of the people of Western New York is clear and we know our community is up to the challenge.”

Donations to the Appeal can be made through Diocese of Buffalo parishes or directly to Catholic Charities. Donations and pledges are accepted at Catholic Charities headquarters at 741 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo; by calling 218-1400 or via its secure website at www.ccwny.org.

The goal for the 2011 Appeal is $10.5 million and is under the patronage of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

Catholic Charities is the most comprehensive direct human service provider serving all eight counties of Western New York, with 70 programs and 61 locations. Founded in 1923, Catholic Charities also provides, without regard to religious affiliation, comprehensive counseling services for children and families, anti-domestic violence programming and emergency services, among other social and mental health services.
