CityMade Purchases to Benefit the American Cancer Society

CityMade, Inc., the Western New York-based company known for its unique gift baskets and boxes, is teaming up with the American Cancer Society to raise funds for the fight against cancer. 

Through the end of December, CityMade will donate 15 percent of every gift basket or product purchased to the American Cancer Society. October was chosen for this announcement in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine recently urged horse owners across New York State to vaccinate their horses against Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV). This is especially important since parts of New York have mosquito activity into late November.

Like so many other causes and professions, physical therapy has its own month to be recognized, and that month happens to be October. But what is physical therapy, and what can you expect when you enter a physical therapy office?

Yellow Dot Program: Provides Vital Medical Info to First Responders

In an effort to better serve and help protect the citizens of Erie County, Sheriff Tim Howard; Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon; County Clerk Chris Jacobs;  Erie County Senior Services Commissioner Dr. Ellen Grant; Erie County Commissioner of  Emergency Services  Dan Neaverth Jr.; and Doctor Todd Martino- President of the Pharmacists of WNY;  announced on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 that Yellow Dot packets are now available.

Yellow Dot is a free program designed to help first responders provide life-saving medical attention during the first “golden hour” after a crash or other emergency.  The Yellow Dot kit contains a medical information card and a Yellow Dot decal.  Participants complete the card, attach a recent photo, place it in the glove compartment of their vehicle and place the Yellow Dot decal on the rear driver’s side window.

Eighth grade students at Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga painted the school's buffalo statue pink for the month of October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Painting the buffalo are Deanna G., Faith M., Hannah P. and James A., along with their teacher Mrs. Moore.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital Plans Healthcare Conference for Women

For the 5th consecutive year, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital will host “A Conference on Healthcare for Women” to raise awareness among women in the local community on a wide array of issues and actions that can help improve their health. This year’s day-long conference is Saturday, November 3 at the Conference Center of Niagara Falls.  The event features entertaining speakers, a luncheon, and health information displays.  Registration is only $15 for the entire conference, $5 for  students, and advance registration is encouraged as space is limited to the first 350 registrants.

The day opens at 8 a.m. with registration and a healthy continental breakfast.  At 9 a.m. the conference will begin with remarks by Mount St. Mary’s President and CEO Judith Maness. Mary Jo Hunt of Hunt Real Estate will be the Keynote Speaker, and Tammie Lee Demler, BS, MBA, will be the Emcee.
