Greater East Aurora Chamber Plans Annual Health LIVE Event

The Greater East Aurora Chamber of Commerce’s second annual “Health LIVE! Jump into the Healthy Zone” event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Healthy Zone Ice Rink on Riley Street in the village.

“Health LIVE! is a fun and interactive family event to promote health and fitness,” said Gary Grote, executive director of the Greater East Aurora Chamber. “In addition to demonstrations and fun activities for all ages, we’ll have many vendors on site to provide helpful information and answer any questions you may have.” 

Additionally, visitors will receive a “passport” that will be stamped when they visit various attractions and booths during the event, with completed passports eligible for prizes!

Wellness Council of America Recognizes Lawley as a “Well Workplace”

Buffalo, N.Y. (April 14, 2016) – Lawley, a Top 100 independent insurance broker in the United States according to Business Insurance, was recently announced as a recipient of the Wellness Council of America’s (WELCOA) “Well Workplace” award. Lawley is one of nine companies in the U.S. to receive the award, which recognizes companies taking responsibility for maximizing the health and wellness of its employees.

Loss of a child to addiction disrupts natural order

When a couple make the decision to have a child, a natural plan begins to fall into place. With great anticipation they wait for that happy plan to become reality — birthdays, elementary school, high school, college, marriage and eventually grandchildren. Never does that plan include the devastating loss of a child due to addiction.

Day after day we hear about opiate-related deaths in our region and across the country.  Children are dying outside of the “natural order,” and when it occurs it sends people into a tailspin. We’re just not supposed to outlive our children. 

While there is really no “getting over” such a loss, you can begin to integrate it into your life. It’s important to understand that grief is a long journey and finding normalcy takes time. You don't wake up one day and everything's good again.

Have you ever stopped to think about the quality of the air you’re breathing? While air quality is usually out of your control when you’re outdoors or in a place of business, you can most definitely do something about the air you breathe in your home.

There are many things that can contribute to poor air quality, especially in heavily insulated homes that can trap air inside. Following are just a few of the many causes:
• Inadequate fresh air supply and/or poor ventilation system maintenance. 
• Pollutants given off by building or furnishing materials. 
• Pollutants from standard household items such as cleaning products, appliances, pesticides, and off-gases from new materials.
• Microorganisms or other biological contaminants.
• Contaminants brought into the building from outside, such as exhausts from sanitary stacks, boiler stacks, natural gas vents or flues.
