Mary Queen of Angels School Plans Annual Basket Auction

More than 200 baskets, gift certificates and gift cards will be featured when Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School holds its annual Great Basket Auction on Friday, March 24, in the school auditorium, 170 Rosewood Terrace, Cheektowaga. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the auction beginning at 7 p.m. A $5 donation includes admission and your first sheet of auction tickets. Students under 18 will be admitted free with parent.

A 50/50 raffle will also be featured during the event, and snacks and pop will be available for purchase.

Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery Readies for Upcoming Exhibits and Classes

Students from the Academy for the Visual Arts at both West Seneca East and West highs schools will exhibit their talents during the “Create It!” exhibit at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca. The student exhibit showcases a variety of media, creativity and discipline. An opening reception will take place at the gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3, and the exhibit will remain on display through March 4.

A collector’s basket class with weaver Maureen Quale will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 18, 25 and March 11. The collector is a large basket with a 10-inch solid wood base. Weaving includes triple twining, double lashed. The top opening is approximately 13 inches, with a height of 12 to 13 inches. This basket is beautiful and will hold books, magazines, towels and more. The cost is $60 and all supplies are included.

Athletes and Special Guests are Part of the Buffalo Auto Show’s Impressive Lineup

Current members of the Buffalo Bandits, former stars of the Buffalo Sabres, superheroes and larger-than-life characters are all scheduled to appear at the 2017 Buffalo Auto Show! Western New York’s premier new vehicle automotive event, the Auto Show will celebrate its annual return to the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center Feb. 9-12.

Three members of the Buffalo Bandits — Ryan Benesch, Dhane Smith and David Brock — will appear at the Auto Show from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, to sign autographs and have photos taken with their fans. 

On Saturday, Feb. 11, former Buffalo Sabres superstars Danny Gare, Don Luce and Craig Ramsay will reunite to sign autographs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Guests will be entitled to one free autograph per player.

Call the Right Play for Super Bowl LI and Pass the Keys to a Sober Driver

Football fans across the country will celebrate America’s most watched national sporting event, Super Bowl LI, on Sunday, Feb. 5. For many, the celebration will include drinking alcohol.

That’s why highway safety advocates and law enforcement officials are teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a special “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk” reminder to urge all football fans to call the right play on Super Bowl weekend by passing the keys to a sober driver before the drinking begins.

Annunciation to Host Mardi Gras Event Featuring the Barroom Buzzards

The Church of the Annunciation, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, will host a Mardi Gras Pot Luck Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in Selbert Hall. The event will feature music by Buffalo Music Hall of Fame members the Barroom Buzzards!

“What could be better, just before Lent begins, than food, music and good company?” asked Deborah Keenan, Pastoral Associate - Ministry. Guests are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own adult beverage of choice.

Beckett Card Grading, Authentication Event Coming to Bases Loaded Sports Collectibles

Bases Loaded Sports Collectibles will host representatives from Beckett Grading Services and Beckett Authentication Services from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the store, located at 794 French Road, Cheektowaga.

Beckett Grading Services provides collectors with the most thorough, consistent and accurate grading efforts available in the industry. Your BGS-graded cards will be returned in a unique, protective cardholder. Beckett uses an easy-to-understand one- to 10-point grading scale to rate sports cards, which are graded on four key categories: Centering, corners, edges and surface. Grades from each of these key categories will be considered in determining your card's final overall grade. Beckett also grades non-sports cards, magazines, pocket schedules and gaming cards.

Mary Queen of Angels School Prepares for Catholic Schools Week, Open House Events

Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School in Cheektowaga is busy preparing for Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 30 through Feb. 3. The week will feature daily educational themes and tours for families considering MQA and Catholic education.

“Instead of hosting a traditional open house event, MQA will be open throughout Catholic Schools Week to families who would like to see our school, teachers and students in action,” said Principal Kristen Hada. “Tours will be offered from 8:15 a.m. until 2 p.m. Jan. 30 through Feb. 3, and you do not need to make an appointment. If you cannot make it in during school hours, please call the school office at 895-6280 to schedule a private tour.”
