Books for Kids Book Drive

Books for Kids Book Drive

Today, Friday, April 20th, Channel 2, The Buffalo News and Wegmans are partnering up for the 18th Annual Books for Kids Campaign.

Books for kids collects new children's books from the community and distributes them through Project Flight to needy children in Western New York who would not otherwise have a chance to own a book of their own. Several organizations that service children and community service organization lending libraries are eligible to receive books from Books for Kids. Last year, Books for Kids collected 109,000 books throughout the month-long campaign.

An adult learning to ride a bike while encased in bubble wrap, a magician and a Kids’ Corner – each of these and more will be featured during an upcoming fundraiser for Ride for Roswell and the Town of Tonawanda Paramedics.

The 3rd Stick it to Cancer Blood Drive and Basket Raffle will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Town of Tonawanda Boys and Girls Club, 54 Riverdale Ave. Organizer Lisa Johnson, a Town resident and cancer survivor, will begin learning how to ride a bicycle during the event so she can captain a team for Ride for Roswell in June. To ensure her safety, she will be in full protective gear – helmet, knee and elbow pads and fully bubble wrapped. Johnson invites families to take part in a game called “Boo Boo Bing-OW” that will be played as she learns for a chance to win an autographed Thurman Thomas jersey. The bike ride and jersey drawing will begin at 4 p.m.
