Annunciation School Pre-K Accepting Applications

Annunciation School, located at 7580 Clinton St. in Elma, is currently accepting applications for Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 for the 2012-13 school year. Following the New York State core standards for preschools, the primary goal in Annunciation Pre-K is to have your child’s first experience in school be a positive and successful one! 

Pre-K students at Annunciation review colors and shapes and begin pre-math, pre-writing and pre-reading skills, and work to develop the social and learning skills that are important for academic success. Students also begin using sign language as a second language and enjoy art, music, library, computer lab and physical education.

Free Universal Pre-K, offered through the Cheektowaga Central School District, will once again be offered at Mary Queen of Angels Regional Catholic School during the 2012-13 school year. MQA is conveniently located at 170 Rosewood Terrace, near the intersection of Harlem Road and George Urban Boulevard. 

Morning and afternoon UPK is open to children who will be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2012. Bus transportation is available. Dog Ears Bookstore to Begin New ‘Puppy Tales’ Series

Dog Ears Bookstore, a nonprofit neighborhood bookstore located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo, will begin a new series of “Puppy Tales” story time sessions this Friday, March 9.

Open to children ages 2 to 4, Puppy Tales runs from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Fridays for six weeks. Each session includes stories, a craft and snacks. Children must be accompanied by an adult. There is a registration fee of $15, and room for 20 children in the program.

Lancaster Firefighters Ditch Ladders, Grab Serving Trays

On Tuesday, February 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar in Lancaster, NY will join forces with members of the Lancaster Fire Department to put out meals, not fires. The event is part of Applebee’s “Tip-A-Firefighter” fundraiser and will help the firemen and women raise key funds to support the Lancaster Fire Department Explorer Program. The Explorer program is an initiative for youth ages 14 to 18 and teaches the importance of fire safety and prevention.

Faith United Methodist Church Plans Barbecued Pulled Pork Dinner

If you’re looking for authentic pulled pork with all the fixings, then come down to Faith United Methodist Church for the real deal.

The church at 5505 Broadway, Lancaster, will offer a slow-cooked, barbecue pulled pork meal beginning at noon Sunday, Feb. 26. The meal will include home-style potato salad, "faith" baked beans, crunchy slaw, corn bread and homemade desserts.

Tickets are $9 presale and $10 at the door, and takeout will be available.

Lancaster Schools to Benefit from Chuck E. Cheese’s Event

It’s time once again to have a little fun for the good of an area organization.

Lancaster schools will hold their second annual Family Fun Day from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Chuck E. Cheese’s, 4408 Milestrip Road, Blasdell.

Chuck E. Cheese’s will donate 15 percent of purchases generated by Lancaster family and friends back to the Lancaster Educational and Alumni Foundation, Inc. to benefit Lancaster students. Purchases include all food, merchandise and token deals sold at the register. Attendees are asked to notify the cashier that they are participating in the Lancaster fundraising event.
