THE HISTORIC BUFFALO RIVER TOUR'S LAST TRIP OF THE SEASON

  •   Last chance this season to explore Buffalo's Grain Elevator District by Boat! Labor Day, Monday September  3. This unique boat tour has been educating sell out crowds for 27 years now, and this year was no different selling out every tour. We cover the history, architecture, and technology of the grain elevators, flour mills, and other industries along the Buffalo River and City Ship Canal,  along with a general history of the Erie Canal and inner harbor area. It also provides a great perspective of the greenspace and natural beauty of the Buffalo River, and potential re-use ideas for the elevators not operational at this time. Old and current photographs, maps and a video of the Grain Scoopers at work, will be on display to further enhance this educational experience. A great way to view all the new developements along the river.
  •    For 27 years the Industrial Heritage Committee has hosted these boat tours, both public and private, attracting people from all over the world. Tickets are moving at a sell-out pace and will likely be gone by September 3rd. This tour was featured on CBS, their "Sunday Morning Diversion" program. This will definately be your last chance till next summer.  Don't Miss the Boat!

LARGEST EVER SEEN IN BUFFALO STREETS ~ 20,000 WORKING MEN WERE IN THE LINE

Buffalo Evening News - September 4th 1900

  •    Niagara Square with it's many diverging thoroughfares, is an ideal place for the formation of a big parade, and as the result of its selection as the starting point of today's big labor demonstration, the confusion usually a feature of such affairs, was reduced to a minimum... In addition to the organizations enumerated in the Sunday News yesterday, there was in the line, three sections of railroad employees, aggregating 1500 in number.  With that addition, the total number of men in line was in the neighborhood of 20,000 and fine, stalwart, intelligent men most of them were--men who compose the bone and sinew of the city's great industrial army--men of whom Buffalo is deservedly proud.

Assemblymember Gabryszak Keeps Safety in Mind for the Back to School Season

It’s that time of year again. Summer is winding down and our children are back in school. It’s important to keep in mind some safety tips to keep our children out of harms way.

If your child rides the bus to school, make sure that they never walk behind a bus. The bus driver should be able to see a child at all times. Try to arrive at the bus pick-up early. A child should walk three big steps away when walking next to a bus and be conscious of loose clothing and backpacks when entering the bus. During the trip, children should stay seated in their seats and out of the isle while the bus is in motion.
