Consider Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery for Your Holiday Gifting Needs

It’s an excellent time of the year to purchase a one-of-a-kind holiday gift while supporting local artists! Small pieces of artwork (4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 9x12, etc.), jewelry, handmade ornaments and more will be available for purchase at the “Small Works Exhibit,” by the West Seneca Art Society, at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca. An opening reception for the exhibit will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and the exhibit will close on Saturday, Nov. 28.

A great day to explore the variety of art available in the Southtowns is Saturday, Nov. 14. On this day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Southtowns Art Trail will allow you to travel through the Southtowns (West Seneca, Orchard Park, Hamburg, Evans and Angola) to visit art galleries, artist studios, businesses supporting artists and more. This event is free and open to the public, and maps are available at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery.

While visiting the gallery on this day, enter for your chance to win a “Basket of Art” while helping the gallery support the Art Scholarship Fund for a West Seneca high school student who will be going to college for art in the fall. Artists have donated artwork specifically for this day, and tickets are just $5.

If you want to make your own gifts this year, you can create three beautiful frosted glass ornaments from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. Artist Andrea Oswald will show you how to create these beautiful designs. The class costs $25 and includes all supplies (glass bulbs, paints, ribbons, brushes, etc.)

If you like altered art projects, “Microscope Slide Ornaments” is the class for you. Collage artist and gallery owner Paulette Krakowski will have you create five ornaments using microscope slides, the same ones used in biology class. You will be able to add small photos or sayings (1x3 inches each) to personalize your ornaments. This class costs $25 and will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18.

The popular “Wine, Women & Art” class with artist Andrea Oswald returns from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. During this class, participants will create a funky twist on a pair of wine glasses, giving them a stained glass look made with bright colors of paint. The cost of $30 includes all art supplies, wine and tasty snacks. Just call the gallery at 675-0204 to reserve your seat for this fun girl’s night out!

If you’re interested in creating a felted vessel for your holiday table, come work with artist Suzanne O’Brien from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. O’Brien will supply all of the wool and silks for this wonderful vessel workshop. The wet-felting vessel will be constructed in the colors of red, orange and yellow wool. All supplies will be included for this workshop, which costs $60 per person.

Looking for stocking stuffer ideas? Make your own stocking stuffer felted gifts with Suzanne O’Brien of Zanie Crafts Felted Art from 7 to 9 p.m. on both Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Tuesday, Dec. 8. Students will create two wet felted projects the first evening (wet felted beads and book markers) and will finish their projects with embellishments the second evening. O’Brien will provide the wool and all things necessary to make the felting bookmakers and beads, plus the wire for the bracelet. Students will need to bring the coordinating beads, charms, embroidery threads and whatever else is needed to complete their projects. This class costs $60 per person and $55 for gallery members.
