Sunglasses Offer Year-round Protection From the Sun’s Harmful Rays

If you think sunglasses are simply a fashion accessory, you’d better think again. While it’s true that they may make you look better, they are actually making you feel better as well by protecting your eyes from harmful rays and thereby helping to save your eyesight.

While your skin typically recovers from sunburn, damage from the sun’s rays to the eyes can be permanent. According to numerous medical studies, UV-A and UV-B rays can penetrate the cornea and damage the eye’s lens and retina, leading to an increased risk for cataracts and/or macular degeneration.
